A Fiery Weekend

We moved to a new duplex a few weeks ago, and we love the neighborhood! There are TONS of kids to play with, and the people around here know to drive really slow and watch for kids. We have a nice size backyard, and behind that is a huge field that is part of some conservation land. That leads up to a small forest by a creek. It's called Little Fork Wildlife Area.

Yesterday, some kids set a fire in the forest area down the street from us. Brian and Nate were getting ready to go to the Priesthood Session of General Conference when Marshall came in and announced that someone started a fire. We didn't believe him at first, but we decided to check it out. He was telling the truth!

Apparently, some of the kids in the neighborhood decided to pretend they were camping. Pretend fires are not nearly as awesome as real ones, and they WERE camping, so they started some paper on fire, which caught some of the little branches in the forest. By the time we found it, the underside of a huge tree was burning pretty good. We called 9-1-1, and waited for them to come.

Meanwhile, Brian got a shovel, and tried putting out the fire by breaking up the burning log. All this while he is in his Sunday clothes (white shirt, tie, dress pants, etc).

The fire truck FINALLY arrived (it took them much longer than we expected), and Brian and Nate were only about 30 min late for Conference. What an adventure though!
